Practical information

Barcelona overlooks the Mediterranean and has transformed itself into one of the most dynamic and stylish cities in the world. It is a coastal city and has over four kilometres of urban beaches. It's always up to date when it comes to architecture, food, fashion, style, music and good times. Although it's a large city, it is easy to get around on public transport and on foot. You can reach any point in the city by metro, bus and taxi.

Currency Bank Cash / Credit Cards

The local currency is the Euro (EUR / €). 1€ = 100 cents. Business hours differ between banks. Most banks are open from Monday to Friday from 08:15 to 14:15. Standard cash drawing facilities are available from numerous ATMs. Major credit cards can also be used to obtain cash from an ATM. ATMs are usually available 24 hours a day.

The city

Modernism is one of the principal attractions of Barcelona, to the extent that many of the city's modernist buildings are acknowledged by UNESCO as World Heritage sites.

Those are the best known Modernist buildings:

- Batlló House:

Casa Batlló is one of the two great buildings designed by Antoni Gaudí on Passeig de Gracia. From the outside the façade of Casa Batlló looks as though it has been made from skulls and bones. The "skulls" are in fact balconies and the "bones" are support supporting pillars .

- La Pedrera:

La Pedrera also known as Casa Milà, is better known for its catalan name La Pedrerea (which means quarry). It was called La Pedrera for its stonish appearance. It was built between 1906 -1910.

- Sagrada Familia:

The holy family church that the "Genius of the Modernism" wanted to be the"Cathedral of the "Cathedral of the Poor". Gaudí was commissioned to continue the work in 1891 in 1891, and replaced the existing project with a much more ambitious one, which resulted in the enormous present-day structure. The Sagrada Familia aspires to be a symbolic construction.

- Park Güell:

The financier Eusebi Güell decided to construct a garden city on the old estate of Can Montaner, and commissioned the project to Gaudí. Only two houses came to be built within the enclosure of the park, which was as such and which is now a municipal garden.

- Picasso Museum:

The Picasso Museum in Barcelona is indispensable for understanding the formative years of Pablo Ruiz Picasso. The genius of the young artist is revealed throug the revealed through the more than 3,500 works that make up the permanent collection. However, the Picasso Museum also reveals his relationship with Barcelona.

-Joan Miró Fundation:

Throughout his life, Joan Miró took a particular interest in the diversity of materials, form of materials and colours. It led him to explore and experiment with different art forms such as painting, sculpture, printing techniques, ceramics, the theatre, and tapestry.

You can not leave the city without visiting La Boqueria, the most famous of the Barcelona markets:

It is located on La Rambla, one of the busiest streets in Spain. You will be able to find all sorts of stalls and products, all sorts of buyers and all et ethnic groups mingle in the bustle of the market´s eleven aisles and 300 stands stalls.

There are different options to visit the city but the most suitable and recommended is with the Bus Turistic

The first buses from Northern and Southern routes are at most of the stops from 9:00 a.m to 9:30 a.m. Last ones depart from Plaça Catalunya at 7:00 pm at winter (November to March) and at 8:00 p.m. in summer (April to October).
You can get on and off as many times as you like along the journey. This way, once you have visited those places you have been interested for, you can catch the next bus and continue the route. Just with the same ticket! The rate for an adult ticket is 20 €.
